Description: 
Delaware City was founded in the early 1800's and was first called Newbold's Landing, after the developer who laid out the town in anticipation of the construction of the Chesapeake &, Delaware Canal. By 1829, the Canal was open and the town formally named Delaware City. The City was incorporated in 1851.
