Wellness ExamsYour pet benefits greatly from regular wellness examinations. At Bronx Veterinary Center, we recommend that all pets receive a complete physical examination at least once a year, though more frequent exams are encouraged.Regular exams allow us to detect symptoms of disease and illness in your pet and treat them before your pet's quality of life is affected. During an exam, we perform a "nose to tail" evaluation of your pet. We examine his or her vision, hearing, heart and lung functions, test the joints and muscles, palpate the abdomen, along with many other tests. The information we collect during an exam helps us establish a baseline level of your pet's health and allows us to better treat your pet.New owners of puppies or kittens receive a special package that includes information on caring for your new pet as well as a Purina food sample, coupons and a free month of Heartgard heartworm preventative.VaccinationsVaccinations are the cornerstone of your pet's preventive health care plan. Many diseases that once were fatal to pets can now easily be prevented through the use of modern vaccinations. Your pet is one-of-a-kind, and his or her vaccination requirements are just as unique. We work closely with you to develop a vaccination protocol for your pet that takes into account his or her lifestyle, environment, and other risk factors. All animals receiving vaccinations at Bronx Veterinary Center, regardless of age, always receive a free examination!Veterinary PharmacyBronx Veterinary Center maintains a fully-stocked veterinary pharmacy. We stock a wide variety of pet medications, include heartworm and flea and tick medications. When your pet needs a prescription, we are able to fill his or her prescription at your convenience - often before the end of the visit. Should your pet require a medication that our pharmacy does not have readily available, we will work with other veterinary pharmacies to make sure your pet receives his or her medication as soon as possible.Microchipping: Reliable Identification for Your PetDoes your pet have a microchip? Each year, millions of pets go missing and many don't make it back home. Microchipping your pet is a simple, effective way to prevent this tragedy. About the size and shape of a grain of rice, identification microchips are encoded with your pet's vital information and implanted beneath your pet's skin, usually between the shoulder blades. Veterinary hospitals and animal shelters across the country are equipped with special scanners capable of reading these microchips - if your pet is lost, the microchip is scanned and the information is used to reunite you and your pet. The Bronx Veterinary Center uses the Home Again microchip system.Dermatological and Allergy CarePets have allergies, too! Itching, scratching, and hot spots are all signs of allergies and skin conditions in pets. Allergies to pollen, dust and fleas are all very common and treatable.Dr. Katz has a specific interest in dermatology and has many hours of continuing education in this area of veterinary medicine. No matter what your pet's skin condition, he or she receives expert veterinary dermatological care at Bronx Veterinary Center. Special tests are used to identify the cause of your pet's skin condition and establish a treatment plan.CounselingBehavioral CounselingBehavior problems are not uncommon in pets. Behavior problems are often complex to treat and may be the result of medical or environmental problems. Whether your pet is having trouble getting along with other pets or people in your home, urinates or defecates inappropriately or has issues with separation anxiety, Bronx Veterinary Center can help you and your pet solve these behavior problems.Nutritional CounselingGood nutrition is the key to a healthy life for your pet. At Bronx Veterinary Center, counseling about nutrition starts with your pet's very first visit with a veterinarian. We tal

They are very friendly with her and every time they see my baby they go crazy for her. I have a Rottweiler which can look pretty intimidating to many people although she is a butterball and the staff just love her. In respect to Dr. Vyorst I have been going to him since he was in Grand Concourse and I trust him. The office is highly clean and the staff are friendly. It is what I call a Montefiore clinic for my Arizona. Their prices are very reasonable as well. I thank them for taking good care of my girl and sad to say that we will be moving out of the states, but if I had a choice we would pack them in our suitcase. Arizona will miss you guys. You have taken good care of her since she was 5 weeks old. (Hide)

It looks like a clinic for people SERIOUSLY, you will never guess it is for animals. It is pretty big, not like other places where it is cramped up, and u have to hold ur dog or cat in your lap. They moved from grandconcourse to webster/fordham, and wow. There is two diff waiting areas (which is a plus). Cages on the wall for big, aggressive, or sick dogs. Two diff receptionist, one for incomers and other for outcomers. To see a vet and do a check up is like $50, and anything extra is added at the end (with your permisssion). Other places do not even ask you what they are administering your pet and the ending bill is expensive. Theres a hospital and pharmacy in the back. The place is beautiful and seems like high quiality. The staff are sooooo sweet! And they call you the next day to see how your animal is doing. Only critique I have is tht there is always different vets at different times. The best vet is really the founder of the place, Dr. Katz. (Hide)

I have been taking my sweet kitty to Dr. Katz since 2008 [then The Concourse Animal Hospital]. His reception staff is very friendly, the doctors are always caring, sympathetic, informative and never appear rushed even with a waiting room full of pts. When I first came to Dr. Katz my kitty was very ill and almost died from a complete urinary crystal blockage. Even as a new pt. they fit us in right away. The staff, Dr. Katz and Dr. Barbera were especially sensitve to what me and my cat were going through and in the interim saved his life. 3 Christmases and 3 Birthdays later me and my kitty are still together. He is happy and healthy and we owe it all to the staff at The Bronx Veterinary Center/Concourse Animal Hospital. BTW, the new location on Webster Avenue is clean, spacious, and beautiful. The decor now is deserving of the staff. (Hide)

(More) Over the last 16 years Dr. Katz has been the vet to my four dogs, bird and turtle and I have experienced nothing but highly qualified, polite and great staff. One of my dogs initially showed aggression towards the vet and the staff was able to calm him and provide care for him without a problem. Over the years I have lost two elderly dogs and when the time came for euthanasia, the staff and Dr. Katz were there holding my hand and allowed me to hold my dogs as they passed. They were respectful and allowed me all the time I needed with my dogs until I was ready to give them over into their care for cremnation. Those difficult times were eased by the care and attention given to me and my dogs even after they passed away. I have in the past and will in the future continue to recommend this doctor to friends and family. (Hide)

(More) I have taken my puppy here 2 times and i have to say i am not satisfied. The staff up front are polite and i have not had a problem getting an appointment but once i was in with the doctor, my view changed about this vet. I feel they were not informant enough. I had to basically dig and contnue questioning about my puppy's health..information that should be standard for the doctors to give. The first time I went in, the vet was more interested in playing with my dog rather than answering my question! I would ask up to 2 times and eventually the tech was the one who answered after seeing the doctor was entertaining my dog. I love my dog very much and take serious measures to ensure his well being. I will not be returning to this vet and will not recommend them to anyone either. I would be happier if the people upfront would be the ones in charge of my pet's care! They seem much more compassionate than the vets themselves! (Hide)

The facility has now moved and changed it's name: Bronx Veterinary Center. The facility is much larger, clean and full of warm colors as well as an amazing staff. Over the years, they have maintained superb care. Dr. Katz and his staff treats all of their clients like extended family. There were many but to share one example; When my pet was ill Dr. Katz was sincerely concerned about her condition. He and his staff followed up on her long after the bill was paid. He is not all about the finances, he genuinely cares about our pet's health. Its a pleasure to have a facility in these times with integrity, patience and professionalism. Dr. Katz is not just a dedicated veterinarian he's also an amazing human being. You can TRUST Dr. Katz and his staff with your beloved pet. I'm grateful !!! (Hide)

Dr. Katz is my hero, he saved my princess's life 2 years ago when she ate my daughters pacifier. It becams stuck in her and she was very sick. When I took her there she was really bad. They stopped everything and took her in right away. She needed emergency surgery to save her. Even after I took her home they called me every day to check on her. All the doctors I've seen there are very good but I've seen Dr. Katz the most. They take their time to explain things, don't rush you and really care about my pets. The staff is great and the place is always really clean. Not like the hospital I used before which always smelled. I almost lost my pet when I went to the clinic in an emergency because he has bloody diarrhea, the doctor look at him and before examining him he said the dog had to stay, it was more than $500 dollars and i had to pay now, he shown no sympathy for me who was crying he said to pay or put the dog down. I ask him did he had an idea what is happening he say he didn't know and needed to do testing. I pay $70 for what. He suggested some antibiotics in case of a stomach virus which caused me more than $100 at least he did something good. After leaving his office I went to another vet who for $60 examen my dog and even did a stool sample and yes it was a virus. How about that a simple stool sample saved my dog.As for the receptionist they are rude and unprofessional. I almost made a second mistake when searching for a new vet I call the new place on webster ave and to my surprise is them in disquised. I give zero star (Hide)

They are more concerned with the payment rthan the health of your pet. My experience with them started when my doggy ingested rat poison, and was using the bathroom with a little blood. I took him in and told them what he had ingested...They told me he had to be admitted and some diagnostic test had to be done in order to determine the cause (mind you, I had already told them the cause). They charged me $575 and told me my dog was going to be ok and that I can call the next day to check up on him. When I called the following day to ask about my pet they told me they could not give me an update on my dog. They kept saying that I had to wait for Dr. Katz, who was arriving at 11:00am. At 9:00am instead of calling back, I decided to head to the clinic myself an obtain information, when I arrived I asked about the health of my dog but the receptionist and the technicians were rude and unsympathetic...
